 | Troop 84 operates on the basis of "boys leading boys." Each patrol elects a leader. All scouts elect the senior patrol leader who leads and coordinates troop activities and meetings. Annually, a youth leadership training session is offered to the scouts. The boys plan the troop calendar every six months. | | Each month, Troop 84 conducts a camping trip. These trips include challenge courses, camping competitions, wilderness survival, mountain man programs, horseback riding, and many other programs. | | Canoeing is a part of our annual outdoor adventure program. Each Memorial Day weekend, the troop organizes a canoeing and/or rafting trip in western Virginia or Pennsylvania. Periodically, a week-long canoe trip is organized in western Virginia. | | Backpacking is a fun event where scouts walk along a trail carrying only essential items. Our backpacking season is April through October each year. Each participant is required pass a qualifying hike. Every 2 years, the troop participates in a backpacking trip to New Mexico for 2½ weeks. | | Cycling is part of our core high adventure program. Weekend cycling can occur in nearby local parks, wilderness areas and in near Washington DC. Periodically, the troop organizes a 190-mile cycling trip on the C & O Canal path from Cumberland MD to Washington DC. |
